I am also the President of the 'I can't stand DW' fan club.

I don't know if anyone noticed or not, at the end of the Daytona 500, when the drivers were going into turn three, and it was getting clear that the winner was not coming from the Gibbs camp, our ol buddy DW got extra excited. Why is that? Does he not like Tony Stewart? Kurt Busch? Maybe he's just a big fan of Newman, or Penske.

I can understand an announcer getting excited when his brother or son is coming to the checkered, and I have been touched especially by Ned Jarretts call to the checkered for his son. I was even smiling when DW announced his brother Mikey to his first Daytona 500 victory.

I for one will admit I have really never been a fan of DW. It really stems from his early days, when he wouldn't/couldn't keep his mouth shut. Then came DW's win at Daytona. What did we get in victory lane? A poor imitation of the 'Icky Shuffle', made popular from Cincinnati's running back. You see, 'ol DW, (I don't use his name, because his initials stand for Dim-Wit) can't come up with anything original. From his Crystal Gayle refrences,......... "He done 'Blue Bayou'." , to his inane chatter about how "this cat has a fast hot-rod" and how he wants his spotter to tell him where the leaders at......."the leaders at the line ........now." If you want to know where the leader is, just look in your rear-view mirror DW, because in the last third of your driving career, thats where they could be found. You went from being a brash, hot shot that could back it up, to a spineless wimp who took up space on the track. Your best during that time was your commercials with your sponsor Western Auto, and look where that lead. No more Western Auto.

Feb. 8 2008

I had a dream last night, no, not that kind, but I wanted to take my blog in a new direction. Since the season is upon us, I just thought I would blog about what my feelings and thoughts on the current activities and weekly races bring. That being said, I'm starting out with what I witnessed last night at the Bud Shootout Selection Show, or the BSSS.

The first thing I have to say is if you saw last years BSSS, you saw this years BSSS. It had the same format, with the same bartender. Kenny Wallace was behind the bar, and the bar was filled with tall tables and bar stools. There were 23 Aluminum Bud bottles standing on the bar, with mini flags with the starting position on each flag. The 23 Bud Shootout drivers were seated and talked amongst themselves as the show went on. Not that I dislike Kenny Wallace, but didn't I see this last year? I was going to turn over to 'Lost', but the kids wanted to see who 'won'. Who am I to deny a six and four year old? The Bud girls were cute, but I did notice that the dark headed Bud girl was cast off to the side while the blonde headed Bud girl was front and center with Kenny Wallace. I don't know what to read into this, but just wanted to give the guys who don't have the speed channel a visual.

It seems that everyone I know has a blog now, and of course I don't want to be left out.

I'm just wondering how Toyota has managed to pass Ford on the owners list. Is it money? Does Toyota have that much money that they can have more entries in Sprint Cup racing after only one year in the sport than Ford, who has been here since the beginning? Sure they got out of Cup a long time ago, but who remembers that?

This year, the team that my driver drives for, has made the switch to Toyota. Joe Gibbs Racing has, in my opinion, been one of the pioneers when it comes to taking chances. Never mind the money aspect, I believe that when Joe Gibbs sees an opportunity, he will take advantage of it. I don't think that he made the decision to switch from the most popular manufacturer, and the manufacturer that has the most Championships in Cup history, to Toyota on a whim. He has got to see that Toyota is committed to winning in the Sprint series, and maybe he has noticed what they have done in the truck series.
